How to Get the Best Performance from Your Trailer Tires

To keep any business running successfully, it’s essential to maintain the equipment. For example, a musician needs to keep their instrument tuned, and a driver needs to take care of their vehicle. The same principle holds true for trailers—if you use a trailer in any aspect of your business, then you will need to maintain it well. Our team at Canady Trailers can help you do just that, as we have extensive experience in the trailer industry and know how to get the best long-term performance from trailers of all kinds.

In this article, we will focus on your trailer tires, going over a few tips on how to optimize their performance.

    • Don’t Overload Your Tires – Trailer tires have a maximum load, and exceeding this weight limit will cause them to wear out faster or even fail. You can find this load limit stamped on the side of the tire—the text will tell you how much weight the tires can bear when inflated to their max tire pressure, and some tires will give values for a single configuration (meaning there’s one tire on each side of the axle) and for a double one (with two tires per side).
    • Don’t Mix and Match Tires – Another way to make sure your trailer tires deliver the best performance is to not mix tire types—in other words, don’t use both bias-ply and radial tires on the same trailer. Instead, pick one or the other, and use only that type.
    • Inspect and Rotate Tires – A third tip for improving your trailer tires’ performance is to visually inspect them before each trip—if something seems off about a specific tire, replace it before heading out. In addition, you should rotate your trailer tires every so often, just like you would for the tires of your car, as this encourages more even wear.
